According to Native American Totem Animals there are nine guides that bless us and walk with us. These guides come in the form of animal totems. They represent the power and medicine which we carry with us. These totems come in four different types.

Life Long Animal Totems: which generally reflects your inner spiritual nature.

Journey Animal Totem: which helps you move or guide you along your path.

Message Totem Animal: these are powerful messages that literally make you wake up, brings your spiritual messeage or a message about personal self growth.

Shadow Animal Totems: these are the testers, your inner fears, they are also very powerful.

These totems sit in four cardinel directions.. East, South, West and North. They also dwell in 5 spiritual directions.. Above, Below,Within, Right and Left side. I want to remind you that..

You dont choose your totem animal it chooses you. Each animal has their own power, message, spirit and skill. Totems are not gods, however, you dont worship your totem, you follow it, learn from the lessons it teaches.

                 The Four Directions

 

East: This guide also known as Wabun the spirit keeper of the East. presents us our spiritual challenges and guards our path as, walk the trail to wisdom.

totem animal: Golden Eagle which represents wisdom,  its season is spring. The re-wakening after a long sleep, victory over winter the power of new life.

The color for east is red for victory,power

South: This guide also known as Shawndodese the spirit keeper of the south. Protects that child that dwells within each of our spirits and teaches us to find balance of humility and sacred trust. Brings quality of innocence.

Totem Animal: coyote which we learn about ourselves through our mistakes. the season is summer, the time of plenty.

The color for south is white for peace, happiness and serenity.

West: This guide also known as Mudjekeewis the spirit keeper of the west. We learn our personal truth and find our answers that reside within, shows the path to reach our personal goals.

Totem Animal: Grizzly Bear we learn to look within ourself not only for answers but nourishment. The season for west is Autumn the final harvest, the end of lifes cycle. The color for Autumn is black which represents death.

North: This guide is also known as Waboose the spirit keeper of the north. Brings wise counsel and teaches us when to speak and listen. With this comes the ability and wisdom to recognize and be grateful for blessing which are bestowed upon us each day.

Totem Animal: White Buffalo the energy of prayer and abundance most sacred of animals to Native americans. Possesses great strength. The season for North is winter. Its of survival and waiting. The color for winter is blue which represents sadness and defeat.

Above: Guide which dwells above is our teacher about Great Star Nation, shows the way to honor Great Spirits which comes from the stars. This animal is a constant reminder you come from the stars and to stars you shall return.The color for above is yellow.

Below: your spirit of the inner earth and teaches you ways of keeping yourself grounded and your moccasins on the path. The color for below is Brown

Within: the way to finding joy in your heart and soul and spirit desire. Spirit shows how to be faithful and true to yourself. Protector of that sacred space that is yours alone and no one can enter without permission.

The color for within is Green.

Right Side: Protects you like a father. He is your protector as well as the one who gives you your courage and spirit to fight when necessary.

Left Side: Protects you like a mother, teaches nuturing your self as well as others, how to experience and have loving relationships.
